A portrait of two munchkins

Zak and Lily Painting 002

A personal project of mine - a mixed media painting work in progress of my two favourite munchkins, Lily and Zak.

I have tried to take a different approach, to be looser with the form and structure - gosh it's hard for me to let go and try not be a perfectionist..I was struggling with myself all the way. Though its not finished, I am happy with how its going so far. I loved working on a bigger work area too (this is a large 60 inch approx height wood panel).. a lot more freedom and space to push paint around :)

Sorry about the lack of posting, things has been crazy round here lately! I am off to catch up on some of your lovely blogs ;)

IF- Music

Illustration Friday- Music

Quick ink sketch for this week's Illustration Friday's topic: MUSIC. Inspired by the rock legends of the 80's. Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard...remember them? Sometimes I wish I lived a bit more of the 80's...

Here's some classic Def Leppard for you! Crank it up!

Lovely bubbies, fresh from heaven

I have resurfaced! My last Saturdays have been spent playing fun games and eating good food with family and friends at two baby shower parties for my friends Abby and Angelique (both of whom are due Feb... I think? I have a terrible memory, so I'm sorry if I'm totally off the mark).

I totally forgot to take photos of the paintings I did for them both, but Abby posted some shower photos on her blog, and one of them was the painting I did for her baby girl Maggie. Arriving the way a baby should ... Ha! If only it was this pleasant!

I also saw New Moon last night and have to say, I was bored out of my brain! My interest was only picked up slightly seeing Jacob (wow) and the Volturi fight scene at the end. I have read 3 of 4 of the books, and though I have had to push myself to read them all, I still enjoyed the story.. mostly. But the movies are seriously lacking in imagination or depth (In my humble opinion anyway). Has anyone else got any opinions on the movie? Or perhaps the whole twilight saga is not your cup of tea. I'm a fence sitter myself.

Have a lovely weekend friends!

Polaroid Fun

I love polaroids! They've got that cute vintage look. I used to have one in high school and the most fun part was waiting for the photo to develop, while shaking it wildly in my hands to hurry up the process. I recently found PolaDroid. If you haven't used it, check it out! It turns your photos into polaroid snaps (and at high resolution so you can even print them) You even have to shake the polaroid to develop it, just like a real one! Here are some I did of our family:

Sweet simple things

Sweet simple things

Sweet simple things

Sweet simple things

Maybe you remember Rosalie before I inked her. I'm starting to use ink a lot more in my paintings. I am loving getting back to drawing and I am trying to not be so "precious" about my work. When I do get precious about it, I become afraid to experiment and try new things. I am trying to push past that. The quote is from Laura Ingalls Wilder "I am beginning to learn that is is the sweet simple things of life that are the real ones after all". I really like the finished piece, but I would love to know your opinion if you have one. Like the ink? Or no to ink?
